The Ed Hughes Football League was founded by a group of University of Houston alumni as a basic scoring league with nine original franchises in 1980. Four of those franchises are still in the league and 10 of current 12 franchises have been in the league for over 20 seasons. After a season of weekly winner-take-all, we began using a head-to-head schedule in 1981. We are among the oldest continuous leagues in the U.S. Of the 12 current EHFL owners 7 live in the Houston area with the others in New York City, Colorado, Florida and Brooklyn.

This league was named for the former Houston Oiler Head Coach Ed Hughes. Coach Hughes struggled through a 4-9-1 season with the Oilers in 1971 but he went on to jobs with the Chicago Bears and Dallas Cowboys. He earned a Super Bowl ring as offensive coordinator of the Bears in 1986 before retiring in 1990. Coach Ed Hughes died on June 23, 2000.

(MyFantasyLeague.com Fantasy Times Sources - Nov 2, 2009) In a week 8 Ed Hughes Football League classic, Adirondack Holes tied a tough Tampa Heroes team by a score of 69 to 69, behind the support of 74,856 faithful fans.

Drew Brees

Adirondack Holes were helped out by a 23 point effort from Drew Brees, who beat the Atlanta Falcons defense for 308 passing yards and 2 passing tds in addition to 3 rushing yards. With this performance, Brees was the number 6 ranked quarterback for week 8. They also got help from a 13 point effort from Braylon Edwards, who snuck past the Miami Dolphins defense for 74 receiving yards and 1 receiving td.

Tampa Heroes were helped out by a 18 point effort from Matt Ryan, who got by the New Orleans Saints defense for 289 passing yards and 1 passing td in addition to 9 rushing yards. They also got help from a 16 point effort from Roddy White, who beat the New Orleans Saints defense for 108 receiving yards and 1 receiving td.

Adding salt to the wound, Tampa Heroes could have scored 75 points and earned the win with their best lineup, but Todd Hogan left key players like Jeremy Maclin and his corresponding 10 points on the bench.

Adirondack Holes took advantage of their schedule this week, as their point total would have gone for a loss against 7 out of 10 other potential opponents in week 8.

This brings the record for Adirondack Holes to 1-6-1, and drops Tampa Heroes to a record of 3-4-1.

Coming up in week 9, the 3-5 Boulder Blizzard are at Tampa Heroes, where Tampa Heroes are an early 8.6-point underdog, while the 6-2 Clear Lake Strawmenn are at Adirondack Holes, where Adirondack Holes are an early 19.4-point underdog.
