A message from your Co-Commissioners Thyrl Nelson and
Ken Zalis:
Dear WNST family:
We are thrilled to announce the inaugural season of the
WNST Fantasy Football League. Whether you are new to
fantasy sports or a total fanatic, we welcome all of our
listeners to play along for a chance to win prizes and
the ultimate bragging rights of WNST Fantasy Football
champion.
The basic rules for the league are plain and simple:
- Team selection will be done in a salary cap
style format;
- Start any NFL player you want each week;
- Your weekly roster will consist of 2 QBs, 2 RBs,
2 WBs, 1 TE, 1 PK and 1 Team Defense/Special Teams;
- Teams complete in a 17-week regular season;.
- Prizes will be awarded each week as well as
Grand Prizes at the end of the season;
- There is no entry fee for the WNST Fantasy
Football inaugural season.
Salary cap style fantasy football is easy to
understand. There is no draft to sit through. Submit a
starting lineup for week 1 from the entire NFL starting
roster, any combination you want. The Salary Cap limit
is $100 million. Leave your team as-is for the season or
change up your roster up to five minutes before kickoff
of the game in which your player selection is playing.
Live scoring enables you to monitor your team’s status
as the games are being played.
Teams with the highest points will be eligible for
weekly prizes. Grand prizes will be awarded to teams
with the highest accumulated points for the 2007 season.
For many pigskin-loving Americans, the ability to
control a professional football team is the ultimate
dream. Fantasy football allows this dream to become a
(virtual) reality. Players can compose a team of
athletes to compete against both friends and strangers!
To succeed in fantasy football, you need the business
savvy of a general manager, the knowledge of a pro
scout, and the strategy of a head coach or know
absolutely nothing at all and be lucky. Sometime the
later is more fun, think of all the fun you can have
making fun of those that take fantasy football very
seriously.
In a salary cap game, the fantasy player acts as a
virtual owner with a virtual bank account to choose
players whose weekly game performance translates into
points. These points are awarded for categories such as
touchdowns, rushing yards, field goals and sacks.
Players' salaries rise and fall according to their
weekly performance, and the goal of the virtual GM is to
build the strongest lineup possible without exhausting
his/her payroll. Variables such as injury, bye weeks,
and opposing coverage, a successful salary cap team
requires less maintenance and research than a pick 'em
game.
